The studio's co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, made the announcement, stating the game will be available in a tangible format for players' collections. This confirmation comes amid industry speculation about major platforms potentially reducing mass production of physical discs later this decade. According to a report by IGN, the Polish developer has reaffirmed its stance in favor of physical media users, with the preservation of collectible items remaining an absolute priority for its releases.
A Commitment to Collectors
During an interview for The Game Business, Nowakowski explained the studio's philosophy. He stated that while CD Projekt Red has no direct influence over whether manufacturers will maintain disc production lines by the time the game launches, the unboxing experience will not be lost.
Nowakowski emphasized the studio's own profile to back the decision, calling it a commitment "by nerds, for nerds." This approach continues a tradition established with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. The standard physical editions of those titles were known for including items like cloth or paper maps, illustrated postcards, stickers, and game world compendiums inside the basic packaging. Fans can expect similar detailed stats on the included collectibles when they are revealed.
Development on a New Engine
The next Witcher game, known internally as Project Polaris, will mark the beginning of a new trilogy for the dark fantasy franchise. The title is being developed using the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine, replacing the studio's proprietary REDengine technology.
