Escape From Playtime, a cooperative survival looter from Mob Entertainment, launches into Early Access on October 21...

Escape From Playtime is a cooperative survival looter set in the Poppy Playtime universe. Developed by Mob Entertainment, the game tasks teams of up to four players with collecting resources and avoiding threats within the dynamically changing facilities of Playtime Co. The factory layout changes with each run, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical.

Players must scavenge loot and return it to Barry, a googly-eyed cart, to complete objectives. Loot has varying point values, and each shift has a minimum point quota required to escape. The game supports solo play, but co-op is strongly recommended. Communication is fundamental for survival. Proximity-based voice chat is used, limiting audio to nearby players. Moving too far from the group means losing communication. Splitting up is discouraged; if necessary, doing so in pairs is safer. Going alone makes returning to the starting room difficult and frustrating.

Players have only four inventory slots for carrying loot and utility items. Utility items include glow sticks for marking paths and airhorns to signal teammates, though these also alert enemies. Players cannot directly attack enemies and must use items and teamwork to fight back. Death does not necessarily end the match. Teammates can collect a fallen player's loot and continue, with the fallen player able to return in a subsequent round. Losing a teammate complicates progress significantly.

Characters, enemies and abilities

Players can choose from eight playable characters at Early Access launch, including the Smiling Critters. These characters have an ability to temporarily illuminate the persistent enemy Miss Delight to halt her pursuit. The illumination effect is temporary. If the ability is discontinued, Miss Delight can resume pursuit.

The abandoned facilities of Playtime Co. include classrooms, warehouses, laboratories, and hallways. They are large and easy to get lost in. Enemy types encountered include Boogie Bots, which patrol and sound alarms, and Cat Bees, which latch onto players to drain life and must be removed by an ally's throw. Hazards include noxious red CatNap gas, which requires navigating school desks to pull switches to clear it.

Access and launch timeline

The open playtest for Escape From Playtime begins on October 1. Early Access is scheduled to launch on October 21. The open beta is now available through FirstLook.gg.

Preview and community response

A recent preview session left a notable impression. Daniel Guzmán, an editor at IGN Latinoamérica, admitted he is not typically a fan of the genre. "Debo admitir que no soy particularmente fan de este tipo de experiencias, pero lo que pude jugar consiguió convencerme," he said. He emphasized that cooperation is not optional. "Si los jugadores no se comunican y trabajan juntos, las posibilidades de completar la misión disminuyen considerablemente."

The game's difficulty scales with progression. Each additional shift increases the challenge. The procedural map generation increases in size and hazard density with each shift. Monsters become better at finding players over time, and CatNap gas spreads more extensively. A special co-op puzzle room features giant piano keys that must be pressed in a specific order to progress. There is no matchmaking; players must bring their own friends or join a hosted game. The open playtest for Escape From Playtime begins on October 1.
