IllFonic's Halloween: The Game Captures Classic Film Terror
IllFonic's Halloween: The Game is a 4v1 multiplayer horror title for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC that reworks the asymmetric formula by tasking survivors

IllFonic's Halloween: The Game is a 4v1 multiplayer horror experience available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. According to a review by IGN, the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game has crafted one of the most atmospheric horror multiplayer games in recent years by capturing the essence of the 1978 classic film.
The core gameplay diverges significantly from familiar titles in the genre. Survivors are not only repairing generators or running in circles. Their primary duty is to protect the non-player citizen population of Haddonfield within a 20-minute match timer. Players must coordinate to go door-to-door, warn neighbors, give them weapons for defense, hide them in closets, or escort them to exits. A team can achieve victory even if individual players are killed, provided enough civilians escape.
Key Characters and a Post-Death Twist
The game deeply immerses fans of the original film with its key characters. Playing as the legendary "final girl" Laurie Strode grants unique passive abilities focused on stealth, evasion, and group leadership. One of the most creative gameplay twists occurs when a survivor is eliminated. Instead of becoming a mere spectator, that player can respawn as a police officer or, under the right conditions, as Dr. Samuel Loomis. Taking on the role of the obsessed psychiatrist allows players to pursue "The Shape," shoot at him, and coordinate with remaining survivors to contain him or send him back to Smith's Grove Sanitarium.
Survivor Selection and Tactical Stats
Choosing a survivor is a strategic decision, as each citizen has unique statistics and traits. IGN's review outlines four core stat pillars that define a character's capabilities.
Unique traits further modify gameplay. Laurie Strode's passive advantage, for example, stuns Michael Myers 10% longer if she knocks him down with a melee attack or trap. Other characters with high Personality can convince civilians almost instantly, while those strong in Resourcefulness can get vehicles running quickly for escape.
The Stalking Power of Michael Myers
Playing as Michael Myers is an exercise in patience and strategy. The game does not reward rushing in for immediate kills. The central mechanic is stalking. By observing survivors from a distance, players fill a Stalking meter. This unlocks brutal environmental executions and activates a Bloodthirst bar, making Michael more relentless. To solve the cinematic dilemma of how Myers catches victims without running, the game grants him the "Shape Jump" ability. This allows the killer to disappear into shadows and instantly reappear at any dark point on the map not in a survivor's direct line of sight, creating genuine moments of fright.
Progression and the Graveyard Menu
A progression system adds a deep tactical layer through Perk Decks for both survivors and Michael Myers. Players unlock passive and active advantages that radically change how each round is approached. Survivor perks can increase escort speed, improve tool durability, or accelerate vehicle and electrical repairs. For Michael, the skill tree can enhance stalking detection range, shorten the Shape Jump cooldown, or increase resistance to stuns. The management menu is themed as a graveyard, where players can draw skill cards of different rarities and level them up, offering substantial replay value despite an initially confusing interface.
From the survivor side, the first-person experience is a constant exercise in multitasking under pressure. Players must improvise continuously, locking doors, searching drawers for flashlights or weapons, cutting power to confuse the killer, or repairing phone lines to call the police. The review notes that numerical strength matters. In several matches where the four players grouped with a couple of armed NPCs, they could confront Myers, subduing him with blows and shotgun blasts. Knocking him down does not eliminate him permanently, however. He gets back up shortly thereafter, watching from a crouched position.
