Phoenix Cyclops Confirmed as First DLC for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
Phoenix Cyclops will launch as the first DLC character for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on November 2, introducing a Dark Phoenix transformation mechanic powered by Solar Shards.

Phoenix Cyclops will be released on November 2 as the first DLC character for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls' Year 1 Character & Stage Pass. The character is the first of four planned for the pass, with a gameplay trailer revealed by producer Takeshi Yamanaka ahead of EVO France 2026.
Takeshi Yamanaka confirmed the news, stating, "Phoenix Cyclops se incorporará al catálogo como el primer personaje DLC del Pase del Año 1 el próximo 2 de noviembre." The trailer was streamed on the official YouTube channels for PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games. A playable demo of the character will be available via PS Plus and featured at the EVO France event.
Gameplay mechanics and transformation system
Phoenix Cyclops functions as an all-rounder in battle. His moveset includes projectiles, direct charges, grabs, and pressure tools. He controls distance and engages in close combat using Optic Blasts, which can ricochet off the ground.
The core mechanic involves accumulating Solar Shards. Using his Optic Blasts builds this secondary energy meter. Collecting four Solar Shards allows for a transformation into the powerful Dark Phoenix form.
This transformation is a major shift. In Dark Phoenix form, Cyclops becomes stronger and faster. His attacks, including his Optic Blast, are enhanced with Phoenix fire for wide-area devastation. After using a powerful Super to enter this form, Scott Summers' armor reforms, allowing the cycle to repeat.
Character design and narrative inspiration
The design blends classic Cyclops elements with a new narrative twist. The team chose a Phoenix-possessed version of Scott Summers to offer a fresh take. Yamanaka explained the choice, saying, "Buscando ofrecer una propuesta fresca y sorprendente, el equipo de narrativa sugirió adoptar la versión poseída por el Fénix."
The narrative portrays Summers seeking to contain a destructive power to save mutantkind. Visually, he is depicted as a slightly younger Scott Summers to contrast with the overwhelming Phoenix aura. The Dark Phoenix transformation draws direct inspiration from the Avengers comic event.
Voice actor Ray Chase, who also plays Cyclops in the X-Men '97 animated series, provides the voice for Phoenix Cyclops. Alongside his default Phoenix look, a classic X-Men costume will be available.
Release context and promotional rollout
The character reveal is a key part of the game's post-launch content strategy following its August debut on PS5 and PC. Phoenix Cyclops was even considered for the base roster's Unbreakable X-Men team during early development.
Arc System Works and PlayStation Studios shared the gameplay and release date in the new trailer. It highlights the character's destructive power and how Scott Summers handles it. The game had a showing at EVO France 2026, where the DLC was hyped.
Classic and Legacy costumes for the character will also be available starting November 2. Phoenix Cyclops will be available on November 2 as part of the Year One pass, which includes four characters and one stage.
